"Homage to Catalonia" is a book all Orwell fans should read. I've re-read it many times.

As before the British are looking away again when the innocent civilians are slaughtered mercilessly in Palestine and instead arresting the peaceful protestors and criminalising the innocent civilians ( mostly pensioners who have had enough of the Zionists influence on the western world)

The British are not. Their government is.

Dawood's avatar

True but who elects the government!

Moodieonroody's avatar

That's not true - the peaceful and not-so-peaceful protesters don't know what they're talking about.

I don’t see any hope for you but Keep taking the tablets and let’s see if you can be cured of your hallucinations; good luck

Can’t see any rudeness ( in fact I would say I feel for you)in advising you to continue with your medication so that you may be cured of the disillusionment …take care

His grief was not only for Spain, but for the moral failure of a world that watched.

This helps to understand the world staying silent on the Gaza genocide

I love George Orwell's writings but, unfortunately, Orwell's reputation is not improved by putting Israel: What Went Wrong up for the Orwell Prize - with no evidence of genocide, this is a fiasco imho. What went wrong with Omer Bartov is the real question - can suggest searching out Jeffrey Herf's article:

"From Historian to Polemicist: What Went Wrong with Omer Bartov"

What went wrong with the Orwell Prize for Political Literature?

No evidence. Yes, that's obviously why the United Nations commission found that Israel has committed genocide. Or wait, I forgot, maybe they're anti-Semitic and it's all made-up. https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2025/09/israel-has-committed-genocide-gaza-strip-un-commission-finds. There's quite a lot of the UN totally inventing things about the genocide that there's no evidence for, it seems. https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2026/06/israel-continues-commit-genocide-and-other-atrocity-crimes-deliberately. You really ought to let the United Nations know where they'e going wrong.

Yes of course the UN are anti-semitic - full of despots and jew-haters! The report they based that on is similarly flawed: all you need to join those experts on genocide is pay a fee - I think there was even a Mickey Mouse who joined up. I am certainly not the only one that knows this, now you do too.

You got it mostly half-right.

I had to do Latin at school, because it was a peculiar school where because two left, two very old Latin teachers were brought in. One had fought in the International Brigade. He spent most of his time hurling wood and felt blackboard erasers at children, so hard that they broke on the wall when they missed, when he wasn't staring at Wendy Sedgewick's shirt and muttering in Latin, which frankly, we thought was our job, not his. Unlike Eric Blair, sadly, nobody shot him.
