An extract from the essay 'The Prevention of Literature', first published in Polemic, January 1946
For this greater cause I today wrote of a specific yet over-arching tyranny on imprisonment of speech which is tantamount to imprisonment of thought.
I’M SO SORRY STELLA

CHORUS
I’m so sorry, Stella
But you’ve got to know
Multi-repercussions
Will follow where I go
So I cannot help you
Someone, sure will know
I have got to go
1
Even though you pursue
Justice for your man
And are dedicated
By heart and soul and hand
We simply can’t help you
We’ve got things to do
Cowards love excuses
It is what we do
2
Even though your Lover
Loves the truth o’er all
And is prosecuted
By those big and small
We must give up friends
In the faith that we
Will inherit freedom
Sacrificially
CHORUS repeat
INSTRUMENTAL
3
Even though we know that
Julian stood for all
We need more persuading
To answer to his call
We can’t get involved now
Don’t want to understand
While he stands alone
And stands for every man
4
Even though we’re damning
Every human being
To eventual prisons
For them simply being
We must turn our minds while
Tyrants make the laws
We betray humanity
Our most tragic cause
Free speech for a little longer, but we are truly living out Animal Farm.
A fortune teller
unreadable in white type on black
Sorry to hear that Peter, I'll take a look at it. If you subscribe, the pieces should arrive as black type on white background in your inbox (depending on your email setup).
